Dometic to Showcase Mobile Cooling Fridge/Freezers at Overland Expo

Stop by the Dometic Booth #2 to see the new, expanded line of Dometic CFX portable refrigerator/freezers – providing innovative ice-free cooling for overlanders, campers and other outdoor enthusiasts.

ELKHART, Ind. – April 26, 2016 – Dometic Group, the leading provider of mobile cooling products for overlanders, campers and other outdoor enthusiasts, today announced that it will showcase an expanded line of its super-rugged CFX Series of Portable Refrigerator/Freezers at this year’s Overland Expo West, to be held May 20-22 at the Mormon Lake Lodge near Flagstaff, Ariz. Dometic, a title sponsor for the event, will be exhibiting its products at Booth #2.

The Dometic CFX looks like a standard cooler, but is actually a powerful refrigerator/freezer that runs on 12V or 24V DC power from a truck or other vehicle. The rugged CFX keeps food and drinks colder than a fridge at home, even in scorching-hot weather.

“When you’re out exploring in remote places, ice is hard to come by. The CFX is completely ice-free, providing true mobile cooling for food and drinks,” said Derek Laninga, Dometic’s director of sales for retail products. “At Overland Expo West, stop by the Dometic Booth #2 and find out how adding a CFX to your gear can enhance your off-road travel adventures. We’ll be offering special deals just for Overland Expo West attendees, as well as providing demonstrations and free refreshments.”

Dometic mobile cooling technology was originally designed for the Australian outback, where advanced cooling and rugged construction are top priorities. In fact, a 2015 fridge comparison conducted by 4WD Action Magazine, and testing done by an independent third party, confirmed that the Dometic CFX is the best portable fridge available in features, performance, and value. Overlanders may have read about the CFX in JPFreek recently in a blog that chronicled an African Jeep Tour with a CFX-35US on board. The journey showed that the CFX offers sophisticated cooling, but is rugged enough for a pan-African Jeep adventure.

The CFX comes in multiple sizes. The smaller units – the CFX-28, CFX-35, CFX-40 and CFX-50 – can operate either as a refrigerator or freezer, depending on where you set the thermostat. The larger, “dual-zone” units, the CFX-65DZ and CFX-95DZ, each have separate compartments for storing fresh refrigerated food and frozen food simultaneously.

All CFX models come with a soft-touch digital thermostat. A quick-chill turbo function runs the compressor at maximum performance until the desired temperature is reached, from -8ºF to 50ºF. Once the set temperature is reached, the CFX draws just 1 amp of power to maintain the temperature. The thermostat memory retains preset temperatures even after being turned off.

Each CFX unit has heavy-duty stainless-steel hinges and strong latches, drop-down spring-loaded handles, removable baskets, detachable and reversible lids, a USB port for charging small electronic devices and a separate dairy compartment. CFX units can run on 120V AC, 12V DC or 24V DC power, and both AC and DC power cords are included.

An optional freestanding or wall-mounted CFX Wireless Display is available so owners can monitor and control their CFX unit from up to 49 feet away – providing peace of mind if the owner wants to spend time away from the CFX unit or leave it outdoors. Easy-touch buttons allow users to set cooling temperature. The display is equipped with an alarm that can sound an alert if the CFX’s internal temperature increases above the desired level. The Wireless Display works on all models except the new CFX-95DZUS, which can be remotely monitored and controlled by a new mobile app (available for Android and iOS).

At the Overland Expo, Dometic will also be showing custom-fit durable padded covers for the CFX. The insulated covers are designed with openings to allow owners to easily reach controls to adjust temperature, turn the unit on/off or access the refrigerated compartments. Event attendees may also want to check out Dometic’s easy-to-install stainless steel slides for cargo areas, truck beds, and RV storage compartments, which hold the CFX in place while driving and allow for easy access to contents while camping or transferring items in/out.

Besides the CFX, Overland Expo attendees can also see and buy Dometic’s line of CF portable electric coolers, Avalanche Heavy-Duty Performance Coolers and a range of portable toilets.

At the booth, Dometic will be accepting credit cards for on-the-spot purchases or for drop-ship orders. Dometic products are also available at, or from most RV dealerships.
